| Abstract: Robust and reliable computer systems have been identified as one of the factors that can strengthen economic sectors driven by computers. This motivates the study of effect of exposing desktop computer system to solar radiation due to human negligence. Specifically, its main board (MB) components were exposed to sunlight radiation. This brought changes in desktop computer health status; this can affect their usage in driving our economics for development. The health parameters were monitored and recorded before and during solar irradiation of the MB components, after been accessed from the CMOS setup. A solar meter was used in taking solar power density that reached the MB components. A multimeter was used to measure the temperature and relative humidity (RH %) of the environment under which experiments were conducted. Result shows that, the irradiation of the MB components to 763.0W/m2 average solar density at 37.9oC average temperature and 15.9% average RH%, this lead to increment of processor temperature by 9.4oC and the MB temperature by 9.9oC. This shows that the exposure can bring unwanted changes in computers health status that can affect its functionality. The significance of this study is to enlighten the general public about the danger involve in exposing computer systems to solar radiation. |
