| Abstract: The Schiff base ligand derived from salicylaldehyde and aniline have been synthesized and characterized. Schiff base ligand was used to form complexes with divalent metal ions of Mn (II), Fe (II), and characterized. The schiff base ligand and the complexes were analyzed by solubility test, elemental analysis, molar conductivity, IR analysis, potentiometric studies and melting point and decomposition temperatures. The elemental analysis data show the formation of 1:2 metal ligand ratios. The ligand and each of the complexes were screened for antibacterial and antifungal activities. Disc diffusion method was employed for these assays against two pathogenic bacteria (Escherichia Coli and staphylococcus aureus) and two fungi (candida albican and aspergillus niger).it has been found that, the ligand and the complexes showed different activities against isolates. The complexes show higher activity than the free Schiff base ligand. |
