| Abstract: The study aimed to assess the adequacy or capacity of a 33 kV State Grid for full electrification of urban and rural Areas. This study is relevant to effective power system planning and development in Nigeria. Per-capita power demand (of 0.094 kW) and bus admittance matrix methods were used to evaluate potential demand and grid response by normal mode parameters. Results show that, by voltage and thermal requirements, the present State Grid can support only 20% of potential demand for full electrification. This implies that the present 33 kV State Grid does not have the technical capacity to support full electrification of the State. Further computational experiments revealed that the solutions include: gradual development of a 132kV State Grid that will inject power to existing 33kV grid at critical nodes; and replacement of all 33 kV lines with ACSR 250 mm2 conductors. In this arrangement, network efficiency could be as high as 97%. |
