| Abstract: This work presents the design and performance evaluation of an energy efficient biomass cookstove, to meet cooking energy requirement using biomass gasification principle. The stove which is fuelled by charcoal works with a forced draft mode and was insulated by an insulating fire clay (Sawdust 50%, Kaolin 40%, and Ball clay 10%) to minimize heat losses. The stove performed with an efficiency of 52-61.4% and percentage heat utilization of about 40.65%. It can be started, operated and stopped with very low emission. The stove operates in range of 1.40-1.66KW of power rating and the produced charcoal gas burns with blue flame with a flame temperature of 5700C. The design conditions and safety measures of the stove are presented in this research. The developed cookstove was found to be energy efficient for domestic cooking, especially in the rural areas of Nigeria, with potential to save fuel and emit less pollutant to the environment. |
