Article Title: Parametric Maximum Likelihood Estimator for Realistic Field Strength Attenuation Mapping in Open and Shadow urban Microcells

Abstract:
Accurate attenuated signal parameter estimation in mobile communication broadband networks is critical to ensuring that adequate signal coverage are provided to mobile network subscribers at every locations and effective utilization of expensive resources are delivered. In this work, the radio channel characteristics of LTE broadband system are studied and analyzed using Maximum Likelihood Parameter Estimation technique based on realistic channel measured field strength data acquired in microcellular urban terrains. Based on the estimated log likelihood results, it is found that the measured electric field strength can be characterized by lognormal distribution function in shadowed microcell locations. For locations 3 to 5 which are open urban microcells, the normal distribution provided better fittings the observed field strength data. In general, the maximum likelihood estimated variance values for the study site locationsreveal that normal distribution provided a better attenuation mapping to the measured field data compared to the lognormal function. The results from this works can serves as the foundation and firsthand information for effective planning and improving present and future broadband communication systems.
