| Abstract: Borehole water sample from seven different locations (Kasuwa, Tudunwada, Low cost, General Hospital, Bolari, Mallam Inna and G.R.A) were collected in Gombe town and analyzed for physical and chemical properties using standard methods. Sampling point was on the basis of water source for drinking and other domestic uses. Results showed temperature range of 29 – 31oC; conductivity 110 – 141 µs/cm; Alkalinity 65 – 200mg/L; total hardness 115 – 200 mg/L and pH 6.0 – 7.1 respectively. The concentration of heavy metal and ions were low generally except Mn, Fe, and Pb which were relatively high with values 0.69 – 1.10mg/l, 0.09 – 0.27mg/l and 0.11 – 0.66mg/l respectively. Cadmium, cobalt, nickel and chromium were not detected in all the borehole water examined. All other parameters examined showed values within the accepted limit as proposed by W.H.O for drinking water. In conclusion, Gombe borehole water could be said to be potable as at time analyses. |
