| Abstract: The prospect for subsurface lithologies or rock types may have some economic value for industrial purposes generally in Nigeria and particularly in Oluku Village of Edo State. The study was carried out geophysically using vertical electrical sounding (VES) of electrical resistivity method, employing schlumberger array techniques based on six (06) points per decade operation to justify the study of assembling resistivity data. Geophysical prospect of lithologies in this area is vital for many economic and environmental reasons for example a large portion of the world's fossil fuel such as oil, gas and coal are found in stratified (layered) rock types or lithologies and much of the world's ground water are stored in sediments or stratified rock types. The result of the geophysical survey showed that the lithologies; topsoil, laterite, sandy soil, sandy clay, loose soil, clay soil and clean sand were intercepted at depths of (0.56-0.86) m, (1.92-13.64)m (12.48-52.78)m, (12.58-25.72)m (20.04-74.43)m, (1.20-4.28)m and (80.76-115.09)m respectively below sea level. Their respective thicknesses were probably 0.56m, 0.98m, 7.42m, 6.42m, 6.40m, 0.64m and 5.10m. These results are in close agreement with available bore-hole/driller's log records of the area. |
