Article Title: Application of and Preference for Information and Communication Technology among Vocational Trainees

Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to determine the application of and preference for information and communication technology (ICT) among vocational education students in Niger Delta area of Nigeria. A structured questionnaire was administered to eighty students in the study area. Data was analyzed with the use of frequency, percentage and mean. The findings revealed that the application of and preference for information and communication technology was important in learning vocational education subjects. Approximately 90% of the respondents use World Wide Web (www) in their learning process. Also, 86.3% of the respondents use word processing in learning. The students use word processing for writing research projects and in taking notes in class. In the same vein, 81.3% of the respondents use a chat room for learning. Respondents agreed with the statement that ICT is used for writing research papers (mean = 2.98). Respondents agreed that Power point is useful seminars and workshops presentations (mean = 3.13). Respondent also agreed that ICT is used for storing information based on speed and accuracy (mean = 2.81). Among others, it was recommended that electricity should be made available on campus so students could use ICT facilities.
