| Abstract: This paper is based on a study conducted to cover major projects executed in upstream oil and gas industry in Nigeria in 20 years of operation between 1988 and 2008. The purpose of the study was to establish historical performance models that would form key performance criteria for future application in similar major projects. Data collection was on five major upstream operators and five independent major execution contractors with significant presence in Nigeria. Multivariate analyses were employed to test multiple linear model relationship between a variable and series of other non-dependent variables, e.g. between project performance and other factors like total cost, project schedule, alliance strategy, contract strategy, and project complexity. Binary logistic regression models, analyzed for project performance prediction, generated a range of regression coefficients that indicate relative levels of impact. The results of the investigation provide performance models which are useful in predicting the relative effects of factors that could influence project performance. The significance of this study is thus underlined by the possibility of the application of these models and the identified factors that would impact successful performance of major oil and gas projects. |
