| Abstract: A high carbon steel heat-treated twin-cam screw-press was designed and constructed as a modified model of usine-de-wecker twin-cam screw-press. Three mills of various capacities using the same design were selected to determine the abrasion rate and in-balancing for the period of 4-6 months of usine-de-wecker twin-cam screw-press. The results were compared with the abrasion rate of the new machine. An improved oil screw press has been designed and constructed having an efficiency of 98.6% and a capacity of 0.86 tons/day. The abrasion rates of these old machines were found to be 66%, 64% and 60% for 6ton, 3ton and 1.5ton respectively. Abrasion rate of screw-shafts was reduced from an average of 63.3% to 12.6% by using high- carbon steel material instead of low-carbon steel. The extraction ratio has been increased from 14.0% currently achieved by our oil palm mill industries to 16.8%. |
