| Abstract: We have presented a simple routine which can be used by non geophysicists such as archaeologists and other researchers who may be interested in applying Euler deconvolution method in the location of concealed subsurface features. To validate the routine, a four-source model was used to compute the magnetic anomaly field which was again inverted with an Euler deconvolution program and the Euler solutions averaged to obtain the model parameters. Further assessment of the proposed method was done by apply the technique to magnetic field data acquired from Uwani archaeological site in south-eastern Nigeria. The synthetic example shows that the error in the averaged Euler depth solutions can be between about +_2 and +_8 per cent while the error in the surface location can vary between about +_0.4 and +_4 per cent. The depth of 0.99m to 1.66m obtained with the real data is in agreement with that of 1m to 2m proposed by an earlier work done in the same site. The purpose of the proposed technique is to simplify the method of obtaining a single spatial location out of multiple Euler solutions computed for every localised magnetic source. However, accuracy of such result is a function of the 'multiple' Euler solutions obtained per magnetic source. |
