| Abstract: Effective water resources management is dependent on the understanding of climate change and variability. This study adopts the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) for assessing the changing precipitation patterns in Lagos Metropolis using historical data, with the aim of identifying how these changing patterns affect water resources. The study reveals that monthly rainfall has a decreasing trend from 1957 to 2016 and fluctuated seasonally between the two climatic periods of 1957 to 1986 and 1987 to 2016.Based on 12-month Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI-12), only severely wet and near normal conditions increased in the second climatic period, while other SPI classes such as extremely wet, moderately wet, extremely dry, severely dry, and near-normal decreased between 1987 and 2016, compared to the first climatic period. The alterations of monthly rainfall were an indication of changing climate which can affect groundwater, stream flow, and reservoirs in Lagos Metropolis. These results would be useful in proper decision-making for water resources management in the study area Fuel-less generator is a device that can generate electricity without the use of fuel such as petrol, gasoline sunlight (photovoltaic) or wind energy. Fuel-less generator energy production is one of such sources that are environmental friendly. The adoption of this technology has provided other alternative source of power supply and also reduces effect of environmental pollution by gasoline generator to minimal. Nigeria and many other African countries have been experiencing very low energy production capacity for a long time. Depending on fossil fuels for the sustenance of energy supply for Nigeria is not of environmental advantage. Therefore, the need for alternative sources of energy, away from fossil fuels is necessary. Fossil fuels have been widely used sources of energy in generators such as the steam power generators ever since the Industrial Revolution just before the dawn of the 20th century. However, a problem with fossil fuels is their environmental impact. Not only does their excavation from the ground significantly alter the environment, but their combustion leads to a great of air pollution. This paper set to address the challenge to environmental pollution and provide clean energy. Several attempts has been made on the invention of fuel-less machine beginning from the first envisioned by Nikola Tesla in the early years of 20th century. The concept of mass production of fuel-fewer machines has remained an interesting proposition among many engineers till date, many papers have been written on the feasibility of building an engine base on the idea of Tesla. The prototype of 1kva which was built yield an output of 0.98kva has increase the interest of building various capacity, ranging from domestic to industrial used, design. A fuel-less generator is a combination of a dc motor, a synchronous generator, an induction motor, etc. such that the voltage produced by the synchronous generator is used to drive induction motor. The shaft of the induction motor is coupled directly to the synchronous generator, and in the process, the synchronous generator and the induction motor symbiotically sustain one another thereby, allowing for the continuous operation and production of the electrical energy. The selection of the various components has yield an output 15kVA, 62.5A and 13500watts. The data in the table 14 was derived from performance evaluation of 15kVAfuel-less generating set. The evaluation of the fuel-less generating set was done by loading it with varying loads that ranged from 0 watt to 5000 watts bulbs for time duration of 300 seconds for each load. The voltage of the generator was taken with the help of digital multi-meter. The efficiency of the machine was 85%. From the result, it was observed that as the voltage reduces the current increase. This result supports Ohm’s law’s findings that states that the higher the voltage in the circuit, the higher the current obtained. The design and construction of a fuel- less generator was achieved. The cost of the machine was ? 707,520 which was cheaper than foreign one at ? 3,000,000. |
