by Emeh Ndidiamaka Chioma, Ph.D, Orga Christopher Chukwudi, Ph.D and Monanu Ogechukwu Gloria, Ph.D

Abstract:
The study focused on economic globalisation and growth of budding firms in Enugu and Anambra States, Nigeria. The study was conducted in ten purposely selected manufacturing firms in Enugu and Anambra states. The specific objectives were to: ascertain the effect of trade competition on budding manufacturing firms and investigate the effect of technology on wealth creation. The study adopted the survey research design. A sample size of 218 was got using Cochran (1963) sample size determination statistical formula and same number was administered to members of the board, management and senior staff of the selected firms using Bowley?s (1997) proportional allocation formula and same number was retrieved using on-the-spot filling method. Data were collected from primary and secondary sources. The questionnaire was structured on a five point Likert scale. The face and content validity of the research instrument was evaluated by experts in the industry. The hypotheses were tested with Ordinal Logistic Regression using the Statistical Package for Social Science version 20.0.The findings revealed that trade competition had negative effect on budding manufacturing firms (? = -3.967, p = 0.037 < 0.05) and technology had positive effect on wealth creation(? = 9.892, p = 0.000 < 0.05) in the selected manufacturing firms. The study concluded that growth of budding firms is driven by government policies and the dynamics of globalisation and recommended that government should review the existing trade policies in order to tackle the negative side of globalisation on young firms.__
