Article Title:
The Relationship between Eco-Friendly Solid Waste Disposal Technologies on Environmental Sustainability
by Lydia Nyawira Mburia

Abstract:
Solid waste disposal is a newly emerging trend for environmental sustainability. Environmentalists have devised creative ways to dispose solid waste following the recent ban of the use of plastic bags. The objective of the study was to examine the relationship between eco-friendly solid waste disposal technology environmental sustainability. The study employed primary data collection through field survey by 100 NEMA and Public health officials who constituted 10% and 90% comprised of both 700 students and 100 Wote Technical staff members who were practically engaged in waste paper recycling, waste segregation, clean-ups and were able to identify various sources and types of solid waste. The target populations were able to carry out self-environmental audits on waste segregation, waste paper recycling, sources and types of solid wastes within Wote Technical where they adopted eco-friendly packaging alternatives and observed that simple eco-friendly solid waste disposal technologies went a long way in reducing water, marine and air pollutants that are hazardous to human health and animals. Scientific evidence adduced during the United Nations Environment Assembly with regard to promoting a pollution free planet form the basis of this discourse on eco-friendly solid waste management. The alternatives to polythene bags make use of the indigenous knowledge and practices resident in the Kenyan people and the researcher strongly recommends use of reusable biodegradable shopping bags, less plastic, lobbying for plastic management strategies and recycling regulation in order to actualize sustainable development goals number 3, 6, 12, 13, 14, 15& 17 for environmental sustainability.
