| Abstract: Teaching and learning for sustainable development have become an important area of educational endeavour that educators are responsible for. Given the need to educate citizens about sustainable ways of living and the call for the populace to adopt practices for a sustainable future; educators are hence charged with the task of first understanding this critical concept of sustainability, its aim, dimensions, applications and relevance, and then translating these understandings into meaningful learning experiences for students using innovative and proven pedagogies. Research literature has revealed that most educators, particularly in Technical and Vocational Education, find Educating for Sustainable Development challenging, given the evolving and dynamic nature of the sustainability concept. Educators also find it challenging to find intersections between vocational education and ESD. Hence, they are faced with the challenge of teaching and communicating the concepts of sustainability effectively within the Technical and Vocational subjects they teach. Therefore, this paper reports the results of a Modified Delphi designed to explore sustainability experts’ perspectives about the pedagogies that can be used to facilitate effective teaching and learning for sustainability in the context of Technical and Vocational Education. Fifteen ESD experts from Asian-Pacific countries participated in the study. Hence, eleven pedagogical approaches were identified, and discussions about how they can be utilized within TVE classroom settings are presented through an integrated ESD pedagogical framework. |
