| Abstract: Students are very close to their teachers and are also in a good position to assess some teachers' activities. This study therefore sought teachers' view or opinion about using or involving students in rating of their effectiveness in teaching. Two hundred and fifty (250) teachers randomly selected from twelve senior secondary schools in Ogun state participated in the study. One questionnaire, Teachers' Perception of Students' Evaluation of Teaching Effectiveness Questionnaire (TPSETEQ) was used to carry out the study. Results show that majority of the teachers are in favour of using students to evaluate their teaching effectiveness. There is no significant difference between male and female teachers' opinion about the use of students to evaluate teaching effectiveness (t = 0.223, p> 0.05). Student evaluation of teaching effectiveness can be part of annual performance appraisal. Students' ratings of teacher effectiveness should be compared with scores from other teacher evaluation scales and some criterion measures so as to determine the validity of the scores obtained from student rating |
