| Abstract: The study investigated teachers’ competence in the operation of educational media in the teaching of the English Language in selected preprimary and primary schools in Ibadan North Local Government Area, Oyo State, Nigeria. One hundred and twenty nursery and primary school teachers were randomly selected from ten schools in Ibadan North Local Government Area, Oyo State. A validated questionnaire was the main instrument used for data collection. Data analysis involved the use of percentage, frequency counts and chi-square at 0.05 level of significance. The results showed that there is no significant difference between professional and non-professional English Language teachers’ use of educational media. However, there is a significant difference ((0.711, n = 4, P< 0.05) between them in the operation of educational media gadgets, apart from filmstrip and overhead projectors. The study recommends that professional teachers should always direct and guide the non-professional teachers in operating the available educational media and that teachers should be given the opportunity to attend workshops, seminars and conferences which are all useful in keeping them abreast of new technological developments. |
