Article Title: Funding for Research in Science and Technology in Nigeria Universities: The Gender Perspective
by Bello Theodora Olufunke

Abstract:
The study investigated the various sources of funding for women and men in the field of science and technology. It further examined the adequacy of the funding provided by various bodies and also determined whether there is equality in the research funding obtained by women and men in the field of science and technology. A structured questionnaire was used to elicit information from six hundred and ninety male and two hundred and ten female lecturers in the field of science and technology who were randomly selected from seven higher institutions in the south western part of Nigeria. Data collected were analysed using simple percentages and descriptive statistics. Findings revealed that foreign agencies were the major funder for women in the field of science and technology. It further showed that there was no significant difference in the funding of men and women in the field of science and technology in Nigerian Institutions. Also, that there are no special agencies that fund women in the field of science and technology in Nigeria, hence recommends that the government should as a matter of priority include the funding of women in science and technology in the nation's budget.
