| Abstract: Sports occupy an enviable position in any nation and this is because of the many contributions of sports to the economic, social and political status of the countries. These contributions spurred governments and media organizations to devote a large percentage of their resources promoting sports. One of the ways by which sports can be promoted is to organize various sports events in such a way that it will enhance its acceptability in the society. To attain the expected results in sports, there is the need to efficiently organize, coordinate and administer the various segments of sports. The personnel in-charge of these duties is the sports administrators. Sports administrators, among other duties expected of them in event management, are required to provide facilities, provide equipment, make arrangements for supervision and provide medical services. In doing all these and more, they are required to do all these with the safety of the participants in mind. They are no insurers of safety, but because they administer injury-prone activities, sports administrators are liable for negligently caused injuries in sports events a situation that many of them are ignorant of. This paper therefore focuses on the various duties of the sports administrators in sports managements and how negligent suits can arise from the areas of transportation, facilities, equipment, supervision and medical services. |
