| Abstract: The aim of the study was to determine the effects of field experiences on the learning and understanding of a basic science education course: health, nutrition and diseases among the undergraduate students in Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba- Akoko, Ondo State. The research design of the study was a Pretest post-test control groups quasi experimental of 2×2 factorial matrix. The sample consisted of Ninety two (92) integrated science education students in two intact classes. One research question was raised and answered descriptively. One hypothesis was also generated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The result yielded significant difference in the performance of the two groups in post-test scores[F(90, 92) = 6.94, p ?0.05]; the fact that means scores of experimental group (61.72) is greater than that of control group (47.37) shows that the field trip experiences enhanced better performance on students’ learning and understanding of the course health, nutrition and diseases in integrated science education. It enable learning experiences to be more relevant to theirliving environment and society at large. One of the major recommendations is that field trip experience should be integrated into the broader instructional programme and be used only when they are the most effective and efficient procedures for fulfilling learning and curriculum objectives and that the programme should be well funded by both the schools and parents. |
