Article Title: Strategic Empowerment Of Women In Nigeria Through Technical Education, Training And Employment: An Imperative For Transformative Sustainable Leadership And Economic Development
by Teneke Gabriel G. Ph.D

Abstract:
The growing concern by governments, development partners and other stakeholders in Africa on the need to empower women to fight poverty and unemployment to enable them contribute positively to the economic growth and development of their countries can not be under estimated. In Nigeria, just as in other African countries, various policies have been established by government in order to facilitate the acquisition of skills by women to enable them become employable or in some cases, become entrepreneurs themselves. However, these policies do not seem to be making any appreciable impact as poverty, unemployment and other challenges such as lack of transformative sustainable leadership and innovative management continue to spiral higher, especially among women. This paper seeks to evaluate technical education and the skills acquisition programmes in Nigeria to understand why, in spite of the huge resources committed to these programmes, not much seem to have been achieved especially among our women folk. The paper will also explore the level of cooperation that exists between the government and other stakeholders to see how improving such partnerships through transformative leadership and innovative management could serve as the required catalysts for sustainable economic growth and development of women in Africa.
