| Abstract: The study investigated student participation and satisfaction with recreational and sport activities in selected universities in Bayelsa State. A descriptive survey design was employed, and three research questions guided the study. The population consisted of all undergraduates engaged in recreational and sport activities across selected universities in Bayelsa State. A sample of 109 student-athletes from three purposively selected institutions—Niger Delta University, Federal University Otuoke, and Isaac Jasper Boro College of Education—was used. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire titled “Student Participation and Satisfaction in Recreational and Sport Activities Questionnaire,” developed and validated by experts. The reliability of the instrument was confirmed using the Cronbach Alpha Formula, which yielded a coefficient of 0.83. Data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. Findings indicated that students actively participate in a variety of sport and recreational activities and are generally satisfied with the quality and accessibility of the available facilities. Also, academic workload, facility proximity, and peer encouragement were found to significantly influence participation and satisfaction levels. The study recommends improving facility access, aligning academic schedules with recreational opportunities, and enhancing awareness campaigns to boost student involvement.rts |
